Understanding FPS Mouse Sensitivity & Muscle Memory

In competitive first-person shooters like Valorant, Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), Overwatch 2, Apex Legends, and Rainbow Six Siege, maintaining consistent muscle memory across different games is essential for accurate crosshair placement and flick shots.

What is cm/360 Distance?

cm/360 (centimeters per 360-degree turn) is the universal measurement of mouse sensitivity in gaming. It represents the physical distance in centimeters your mouse must travel horizontally on your mousepad to make your in-game character rotate 360 degrees.

  • High Sensitivity (Fast): 10 cm – 25 cm per 360 turn (common in arena shooters like Fortnite, Apex Legends).
  • Medium Sensitivity (Balanced): 25 cm – 45 cm per 360 turn (ideal for hybrid tracking and aiming).
  • Low Sensitivity (Tactical Precision): 45 cm – 70 cm+ per 360 turn (preferred by tactical FPS pros in Valorant & CS2).

How to Convert Valorant Sensitivity to CS2

Valorant and CS2 use different engine yaw multipliers:

  • Valorant Engine Yaw: 0.07° per count
  • CS2 / Source Engine Yaw: 0.022° per count

To convert your Valorant sensitivity to CS2:

CS2 Sensitivity = Valorant Sensitivity × 3.181818

For example, if your Valorant sensitivity is 0.400 at 800 DPI, your exact CS2 sensitivity is 0.400 × 3.181818 = 1.273.

What is eDPI (Effective DPI)?

eDPI (Effective Dots Per Inch) allows you to compare true sensitivity between players using different hardware DPI settings (e.g. 400 DPI vs 800 DPI vs 1600 DPI).

eDPI = Hardware Mouse DPI × In-Game Sensitivity

For example, a player with 800 DPI and 0.400 Valorant Sens has an eDPI of 320. A player with 1600 DPI and 0.200 Valorant Sens also has an eDPI of 320—their physical mouse turn distance is 100% identical!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Converting by matching cm/360 distance ensures your arm and wrist muscle memory moves the exact same physical distance to rotate in every FPS game, preventing aim fatigue when switching titles.

Yes! Doubling your mouse hardware DPI (e.g., from 400 DPI to 800 DPI) doubles your mouse cursor speed. If you double your DPI, halving your in-game sensitivity will maintain identical physical turn distance.

Most esports professionals use 800 DPI or 1600 DPI. Modern optical sensors operate with minimum input latency and zero smoothing at 800–1600 DPI while offering pixel-precise control.
